Tension mounts as the John Smith’s Grand National gets closer. The runners and riders have been drawn. On Saturday we will see forty horses and their jockeys line up and prepare for the World’s most exciting and prestigious steeplechase.

To correctly predict the winning horse, you will have to consider particular elements of a horse’s ability and aptitude. The going will favour those horses that prefer good or good to soft. You’ll be looking for a horse that also has determination and staying power as the four miles and four furlongs race is usually completed in more than ten minutes. I have a hunch about West End Rocker, just not keen on the name, run over three miles, four times and also never fallen. Likes good ground and is a nice price of 33-1 at the minute.

More shorter odds, well, my 3 favourite punts are Midnight Club, Ballabriggs: both fallen once and won four times over 3 miles also like soft and good to soft respectively and the third choice, Oscar Time. Wouldn’t bet on What A Friend, although in with a good chance, just can’t stand The Ferguson man.
